PCOS-related cramps are often more intense and can be accompanied by a heavier, more prolonged menstrual flow due to the buildup of the uterine lining from irregular periods.

Normal period pain is typically a dull ache or cramping that lasts for a few days at the start of the period. In contrast, PCOS-related pain can be more severe, and women may experience larger blood clots and longer-lasting discomfort.

According to the PCOS Society of India, PCOS affects an estimated 1 in 5 girls in India. In some parts of India, the prevalence of PCOS is even higher, affecting up to 35% of young women.

A health awareness graphic with a pink and dark blue color scheme explains the difference between PCOS-related period cramps and normal menstrual pain. The title, written in large white text on a pink speech bubble, reads: "How do you differentiate PCOS-related cramps from normal period pain?" Below, pink text on a dark blue background states: "PCOS cramps are more intense and prolonged. They can be heavier with the presence of larger blood clots during menstruation." A small cartoon avatar of a woman is beside the text. The explanation below clarifies that irregular menstrual cycles in PCOS cause the uterine lining to build up, leading to heavy menstrual bleeding with clots and more painful, crampy periods when menstruation finally occurs. The graphic ends with the campaign message "STOP The Period Pain." Which is a knowledge initiative campaign by Blue Cross Laboratories the makers of meftal spas.
