Period pain may spread to your thighs and lower back because of the way the nerves in your body are connected. When your uterus cramps, the nerves in that area can send pain signals to other parts of your body, including your legs and back.

For many women in India, this pain is often dismissed as a normal part of their period. However, if the pain is severe, getting worse, interferes with your daily life or accompanied by other symptoms, it can be a red flag for an underlying condition such as:

  • Endometriosis: In this condition, tissue similar to the uterine lining grows outside the uterus, which can cause severe cramps and pain that radiates to the lower abdomen, back, and thighs.
  • Uterine Fibroids: These non-cancerous growths can put pressure on nearby nerves, causing pain that spreads to the lower back and legs.
The image features a question in large, bold white text at the top, asking, "Why does my period pain go down to my thighs?" The background is divided into two sections with a dark blue speech bubble shape at the top and a solid pink color filling the bottom. Below the question, the answer is given in smaller, dark blue text: "Due to the nerve connections between the uterus and your thighs and lower back, a cramping uterus can also send pain signals to these areas." A small illustration of a smiling female medical professional is placed near the end of this text. Further down, in smaller white text, there is a warning stating, "If the pain is severe, getting worse, interferes with your daily life or accompanied by other symptoms, it can be a red flag for an underlying condition such as endometriosis or uterine fibroids." The graphic ends with the campaign message "STOP The Period Pain." Which is a knowledge initiative campaign by Blue Cross Laboratories the makers of meftal spas. The overall design is informative and visually clear, aiming to educate about menstrual cramps, period pain relief, pain radiating to thighs, and when to seek medical advice for women’s reproductive health issues.
